"We ARE the Sigma Nu Snakes from East Carolina"

Returning to The Rock in 2011
In September 2011 we shall "Return to the Rock" of Sigma Nu in Lexington, VA
Things to do and places to go while in Lexington, VA

As our Eta Beta Brothers plan their "Return to The Rock" for the 2011 Snake Reunion, several have asked about things their spouses and significant others to do and see in Lexington today.  They have also asked about what they should plan to do themselves in their free time.  Therefore we hope the following related links will be of some value to each of you and yours.  Just click on the links:

Hampton Inn Col Alto, in Lexington: This is where we'll be staying. You will enjoy the facility, located across the street on the side of the Sigma Nu Headquarters property. And too they offer a very nice continental breakfast daily.

Lexington Golf & Country Club:  This is where our Snake Reunion golfers will tee-up for their round of golf. Some may want to stay over and challenge the course again.

Sigma Nu Fraternity Headquarters:  This is the home of "The Rock of Sigma Nu" and where it all began for most of us Eta Beta's who made the visit as pledges. For those who didn't make such a pledge trip this will be even more moving. However, the HQ has changed dramatically. You'll all love it so don't miss this visit.

Virginia Military Institute (VMI):  Sigma Nu fraternity was founded on the parade grounds at VMI so many will want to stop and tour there. You should since it's an important part of our heritage.

Washington & Lee University (W&L):  You will enjoy taking the W&L tour as well. Lots to see there. W&L is also an important factor in the Fraternity Triad in Lexington.

George C. Marshall Museum: This will be a memorable part of your trip to Lexington.

Lee Chapel and Museum:  Don't miss this part of the tour during your trip. It will be a moving experience for you during your Lexington visit.

Stonewall Jackson House: Not only will you want to visit the house but you will also want to visit his tomb in Lexington.

Lexington Triad-Sigma Nu Story:  Be sure to visit this historic marker situated between the two campuses of VMI and W&L.

Lexington Fraternity Triad Video, posted by Alpha Tau Omega:  This ATO video will give you some idea of the ceremony behind the Lexington Fraternity Triad.

Return to the Rock in 2009 by Young and Williams:  In 2009 Bill Young and Jerry Williams made a "Return to the Rock" trip and the story of that venture is posted on the Snake Reunion website so you may want to review their visit to Sigma Nu HQ and their time with Jim Stout as well as Dickie and Louise Tayloe. Also, you'll want to scroll down the this story on the website to see the supplemental pages that go with it.

Further, while you are at the Sigma Nu Headquarters be sure to walk down the "Pathway of Honor" and see the memorial bricks placed there in memory of three of our fraternity brothers who were lost during the Vietnam War. Glenn Dyre, Bill Rogers and Dempsey Williams are remembered along the "Pathway of Honor" located betweeh the HQ building the the Education Foundation Center. We hope during your visit that you will pause and remember them for their ultimate sacrifice. Their names are also carved on the Vietnam Wall in Washington, DC.

Natural Bridge:  Young and Williams also made a stop at the Natural Bridge and if you are driving to Lexington from the South, you may want to make such a stop and see this natural wonder. It will be worth the effort.

No matter how much you tour or shop in Lexington, you will be enchanted by the Sigma Nu heritage and your trip there. Yours will be a memorable experience and we all look forward to seeing you and yours in Lexington for the 2011 Snake Reunion of the Eta Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu.
