Larry N. Wynns, HB 27

Larry Wynns, 72, died peacefully at home on September 2, 2009 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was a native of Powellsville, North Carolina. He spent twenty-seven years as an active Rotarian, most recently with the Capitol City Rotary Club. He was the Past President of the Ahoskie Rotary Club and was twice a Paul Harris Fellow. Larry was the father of two Eagle Scouts and was awarded the District Award of Merit for his contributions to the Scouting Movement. Larry was a stalwart champion of the homeless in our community, especially our homeless veterans, and was responsible for starting Christ Church’s Homeless Support Circle initiative. Larry spent more than forty years in various capacities in the insurance industry culminating as the owner of the Wynns Insurance Agency in Raleigh. Larry was preceded in death by his parents James Braxton and Annie Norvelle Wynns, and his brother Adrian. Larry is survived by his wife, Jewel; his son, Bryan and his wife Kimberly and their two children Hunter and Eliza; his son Travis and his wife Michelle and their two children Abigail and Macy; his brother Joseph Braxton; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Duke Hospice for their wonderful support. The memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 E. Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC. A celebration of life will take place at 1520 Liatris Lane, Raleigh, NC 27613 following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Duke Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Durham, NC 27704 or the Capital City Rotary Club Scholarship Fund, PO Box 10523, Raleigh, NC 27605 with the notation for the Larry Wynns Challenge.
