Laverne "Chris" Christie
SALISBURY, NC - Volney Laverne "Chris" Christie, 70, of Salisbury, died on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at his residence. Chris was born on June 8, 1938, in Cabarrus County to the late Volney H. and Irma Louise Sides Christie. He was a graduate of A.L. Afterwards, he graduated from the flight officers training program in Pensacola, Fla. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966. He held the rank of lieutenant and was a navigator, flying 33 missions to Vietnam.

Chris retired from East Coast Metals Distributors in Durham, N.C. in 2005. He was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church and a member of the Cross Talk class. Brother Christie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Glenda Preslar Christie; one son, Kevin Glyn Christie and wife, Jessica, of Charlotte; one daughter, Shannon Christie Wickham and husband, Steven, of Asheville, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Mason Noel Christie, Stella Lee Christie and Sarah Delia Wickham. His funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2009, at Milford Hills United Methodist Church, with the Rev.
