"We ARE the Sigma Nu Snakes from East Carolina"

"Dixie" Hobgood is not deceased as reported but alive and well in Raleigh!
Snake Reunion is pleased to announce that Druid D. "Dixie" Hobgood is alive and well and living in Raleigh. As many of you know, it was reported at the First Snake Reunion that Dixie was deceased. As a result, his name and HB number were listed among our deceased brothers on the "In Rememberance" page of this site. That has been corrected and we are thrilled to learn of the mistake and to know that Brother Hobgood is still amongst us.  We are pleased that a family friend discovered the error and brought it to Dixie's attention and he brought it to ours on September 20, 2009

For those of you who would like to contact Dixie, you may do so at his address listed below:

Druid D. "Dixie" Hobgood, Jr., HB 15, 5231 Olive Road, Raleigh, N C 27606.  Phone:  (919) 851-8773.

We do apologize to Dixie and his family for this serious error but are pleased to let those of the Eta Beta First Charter know that he is not deceased. This is great news.  We do expect Dixie at SR3 in 2010 but hope to see him before then.

Millard Maloney recently had bypass surgery at WakeMed
We wanted to advise the Eta Beta First Charter Snakes that Millard Maloney underwent a quadruple bypass at WakeMed on Thursday, September 3, in Raleigh.  He remained at WakeMed until September 10 but is now home and doing well.

Below is a redacted copy of the email some of us received prior to Millard going in for Surgery. As indicated, he expected to remain in the hospital for eight to 10 days.

T. Jerry Williams visited Millard at WakeMed on September 9th and found him in great spirits and ready to go home. Millard will need to go back in for further surgery as part of a different procedure but is quickly mending in the Sigma Nu fashion.

Dear Friends & Business Associates:

During recent medical testing it was discovered that I have some blockage in large veins located in lower abdominal which will require surgery.  During  follow up further discovery was made of  multiple blockage in my heart area, e.g., 100% / 90% / 80%  ...   I was hospitalized on Tuesday & Wednesday August 25th & 26th at Wake Med in Raleigh, & the doctors wanted me to stay for surgery on Friday morning.

For a variety of reasons I could not stay this week, but will  return for more related tests & preps next Monday & Tuesday, & the major surgery will be on Thursday morning (September 3rd).  I will then be in the hospital for 7 to 10 days, depending on all conditions.

Thank you, & very best wishes to everyone ... I'll be in touch again soon,

Millard Maloney

Snake Reunion 3 to be planned soon
One of the things on Millard Maloney's mind during his recovery period in the hospital was what to do about Snake Reunion 3, so if you have some ideas please be sure to send them to Millard and members of the High Council. We have now learned that it's almost impossible to get rooms in Greenville for a game so finding a block of rooms for a group that will not commit to a block of rooms all at once is next to impossible.

The High Council also wants to bring in brothers who have not attended SR1 or SR 2 as well as those who have. For example, we do expect David Jones, Steve Hockman and Nolan Clinard at the next reunion. And too, at the business session you will be asked about your thoughts on future reunion sites and agendas.

Do keep in mind that the High Council does want to plan an event that will draw the maximum participation and be enjoyable and memorable to all. Therefore, be on the look out for notices about SR3 in 2010.
